🗞 News and articles
Daniil Sukhovskoy and Kirill Kirillov talked about the creation of the Matrix, their own system that helps optimize work on any design project. It makes the design process more structured and reduces the time for iteration and discussion.
The system is a table where the key cells contain the principles, and the intersection shows the results of their combination with each other. Key cells can be filled with anything: colors, fonts, styles, or even custom paths. This visualization greatly facilitates the discussion and selection of approaches to the project.
They have already tested the system on real projects. This approach will appeal to both designers and customers. Each case took an average of four hours of work by a team of two people, and the result was quite stable.
The Doc edition published an article on the importance of conceptual models in various fields — from design to business.
They explained how concepts help connect imagination with practical execution and create products that users can easily understand.
New technologies
In 2023, one of the partners of Sequoia, the largest investment company, published an article in which it estimated global spending on GPUs and their ratio to companies' revenue from AI. Based on Nvidia's revenue, he estimated that spending on AI data centers amounted to $100 billion, while the entire industry showed revenue of only $75 billion. The gap was 125 billion.
In 2024, an updated report was released, which shows even more shocking results. By the end of this year, spending on data centers will grow to $300 billion per year, which requires revenue of $600 billion. If revenue remains at the current level of $100 billion, then the gap will be $500 billion, which is equivalent to the combined revenue of Microsoft and Apple.
If we consider that there are other chips besides Nvidia, then the real costs for data centers will be much higher. If such dynamics continue, the AI industry may turn out to be a huge bubble in financial terms.
The French startup Kyutai presented the Moshi voice assistant, which supports 70 different emotions and accents. The company was ahead of OpenAI, which promised to introduce its voice assistant.
The developers promise to publish the code to the public and make a lightweight version for local launch. At the time of publication, the Russian language is not supported.
