Future Of Brand Guidelines

The team of the Brandpad design platform has written an article about how the guides have changed in recent years and what they will become in the future.

The main thoughts:

  • Today, guides should be live, dynamic documents that are updated as needed. They should reflect both the key elements of the brand and its current iteration

  • Brands of the future will strive for generative automation and personalization. Such systems will no longer require dry and redundant manuals, but a flexible AI brain that will be able to adapt the design in real time.

  • The brands of the future will be more flexible. Their guides will consist of separate principles — atoms that can be used or combined depending on the situation, while maintaining recognition

  • The brands of the future will be based on more modern components: generative logos, variable fonts, interactive graphics, animations and others

  • The trend towards dynamics and interactivity will finally make static PDF guides irrelevant

  • The process of developing guides will turn into a long-term collaboration between the design agency and the brand. Such projects will no longer have a final point

  • The role of agencies may shift from simple order fulfillment to strategic partnership with clients

Is $0 Better than Free? Korean scientists conducted a study and found out which wording is better perceived by customers — "For free" or "For $0". In all cases, the number option showed the best results.

Why do Personas underdeliver to design teams? Irith Williams analyzed the disadvantages of the person method, a popular product analysis technique whose purpose is to create portraits of potential users.
