Reel talk: the power of branded motion design

The guys from Koto Studio wrote in great detail about the importance of motion design in branding and how it can influence the image of a company and fix it in the memory of users.

The article describes the history of motion design since the 19th century, its value in communicating with the audience, practical application options, and tips on creating an animation system for the brand.

The theses are supported by illustrative examples of animations, and the article concludes with materials for inspiration, tips, cheat sheets, and common mistakes.

Some thoughts from the article:

  • Storytelling, engagement, and memorability are the three superpowers that motion design gives a brand.

  • Motion design as a visual storytelling tool is especially effective for simplifying complex information. It can be a guide or a demonstration of the company's values and goals.

  • Motion design with a competent narrative can significantly increase the cost of a product.

  • Video marketing is still one of the most effective strategies for stimulating sales and attracting customers. 60 % of viewers stop watching the video only after two minutes

  • Users remember 95% of a message when they watch it in a video ad, and only 10% if they read the same message in text.

  • In order for the viewer to pay attention to animation in a rapid stream of content, it must be based on a strong, meaningful and interesting story.

  • The animation system should be laid at the very beginning of brand development

  • Before creating the animations themselves, you need to describe their nature and main principles in the form of simple adjectives

  • . The animation system should be considered as grammar. Using individual elements, she creates new meanings.

  • After creating the system, it needs to be documented, describing all the rules in an accessible way.

OKLCH, explained for designers. Samuel Wong spoke briefly and easily about the OKLCH color model, which has a wider range compared to RGB and CMYK.

New technologies

Spline has introduced Spell— a new AI model that can transform a flat image into a full-fledged 3D scene in just a few minutes. After that, you can animate the camera movement inside the scene.

Anthropic presented Claude 3.7 Sonnet, its new and most intelligent model.

She received a new reasoning mode, which allows her not only to answer questions, but also to reason, demonstrating her logic when searching for an answer. This is especially useful in the fields of programming, finance, and law.

Along with the model update, Claude Code was released, a powerful agent—based tool for writing code. It allows you to speed up code development, analyze and edit the code base, fix bugs, and more. It is in beta testing mode at the time of publication.

The cost of API access remains at the level of previous versions: $3 per million input tokens and $15 per million output tokens.
