Simplification Takes Courage

Christopher Butler explained why it is important to simplify design and content in order to keep users' attention, and why removing unnecessary things is more difficult than adding something new.

Main thoughts:

  • Simplifying a website is not just an aesthetic solution, but a way to increase the effectiveness of communication with the user.

  • Even the most motivated user gets distracted more than he thinks about decisions, and his cognitive bandwidth is less than he thinks.

  • Simplicity is necessary so that the user clearly understands what is happening on the site and what he needs to do.

  • In order for the user to perform the action that you expect from him, he should not be distracted by other scenarios.

  • Simplification requires courage. Most of the elements on the site were invented and approved by someone, so a clear and meaningful position is needed to remove them.

The Model is the Product

Alexander Doria said that "a model becomes a product," referring to large language models (LLM). Analyzing the processes taking place in this market, he comes to the conclusion that key breakthroughs in this area will occur through the creation of new models, rather than through the development of new applications based on existing ones.

UI & UX micro-tips

Mark Andrew has compiled 36 simple but useful recommendations that will help make interfaces more convenient and accurate, and most importantly, increase conversion.

The article provides specific examples of improvements: from working with text and icons to button states and product cards.
